Get Your Lawn Ready for Fall with Fescue Overseeding

Fall is the perfect time to give your lawn the boost it needs, especially in those shady spots where Bermuda grass just won't grow. At Huskey Turf, we offer professional Fescue overseeding services to help you improve your lawn. Whether you want us to handle it or prefer to do it yourself, here's what you need to know.

Why Fescue Overseeding?

Perfect Growing Conditions

Fall weather is ideal for Fescue seeds. Cooler temperatures and more moisture help the seeds germinate and grow strong.

Stronger Lawn

Overseeding in the fall gives the new Fescue grass plenty of time to mature before summer. This makes your lawn tougher and better able to handle the heat.

Better Look

Filling in bare patches with Fescue makes your lawn look fuller and more vibrant, especially in shaded spots under trees or near fences.

Best Places for Fescue Overseeding

Fescue overseeding works best in certain areas of your lawn:

Shady Areas

It's great for places where Bermuda grass struggles, like under trees or on the north side of your property.

Growth Timeline

You should see good growth in 4-6 weeks, depending on the weather and how well you care for the overseeded areas.

Watering Needs

To help the seeds germinate, keep the overseeded areas moist for 2-3 weeks. This usually means watering twice a day, which is easier if you have an irrigation system.

DIY Fescue Overseeding Guide

Prefer to do it yourself? Follow these steps:

Step 1: Prep the Soil

Rake your lawn to remove debris and loosen the soil. This helps the seeds make good contact with the soil.

Step 2: Spread the Seed

Use a broadcast spreader to evenly distribute Fescue seeds over the areas you want to overseed. Follow the seeding rate on the seed package.

Step 3: Cover with Peat Moss

Lightly cover the seeded areas with a thin layer of peat moss. This helps retain moisture and protects the seeds.

Step 4: Water Regularly

Keep the overseeded areas moist by watering twice a day for the first 2-3 weeks.

Step 5: Avoid Pre-emergent Treatments

If you plan to overseed, avoid using pre-emergent treatments, as they will stop new grass from growing. Let us know if you're overseeding so we can adjust our treatments.
